About Dayle

Thanks for stopping by my website.

For me photography fulfils many roles.  As someone interested in the management of our environment, much of my photography is about documenting our environment and the natural elements that comprise it.  These pictures can form a useful record over time, and have educational value to illustrate natural ecosystems, environmental values and threats that exist to our environment.

Old buildings and ruins are another recurring theme in my photography - for me these are a window to another time, and I feel that it is important to honour their existence before they disappear from our landscape forever.   I love stumbling upon unexpected farming treasures or old cars as I drive around the countryside.

When I travel I love to take photos to share what I'm seeing with family and friends.  These days, I'm also looking to illustrate travel writing stories and add to my stock collection.  The world is such a big place and I want to help others to see the world that lies beyond their doorsteps.

Other times I photograph to highlight the beauty that others might miss - the patterns of nature or a simple flower in isolation.  Its true that sometimes we can't see the forest for the trees.

I began photographing with a second hand Pentax ME Super which I still don't have the heart to dispose of.  Then I progressed to a Pentax MZ5n which I also loved, but these days I shoot mostly with my new Pentax K20, a great camera that allows me up to 14MP of digital fun .

I have spent 20 years working as an environmental scientist for the NSW government in the area of wetland and river management.   Through years of field work and independent travelling I have gained an intimate knowledge of New South Wales and its natural environments.  I maintain a strong interest in the management of our rivers, lakes, wetlands and other natural resources.

My writing and photographic interests include natural resource management, outdoor recreation, travel and heritage.

Stock Photography

I am a member of Ozimages International Stock Photo Library where I have a growing collection of images available for commercial licensing (currently close to 800 online but many more on file at home).   My photographs have been used in government publications including the NSW Wetlands Management Policy 1996, NSW Wetlands Management Guidelines 1997 and the Department of Natural Resources website.

Journalism and Writing

My writing and photography has been published in Australian Photography, Go Camping Australia, and Wild magazines.  I have also written and researched a book chapter on the exploration and European settlement of the Darling River for the Murray Darling Basin Commission.  In 2008 I wrote a series of 25 case studies and Issue 1 of a newsletter for the NSW Environmental Trust.
